Meet this year’s Spotlight honorees

Dr. Jonathan C. Irish
Chief, Department of Surgical Oncology, University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital Professor, Department of Otolaryngology, University of Toronto

On staff at Princess Margaret Hospital since 1992, Dr. Jonathan Irish is Head of Surgical Services at PMH and Chief of Surgical Oncology at University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital. He is also a Professor at the University of Toronto.

“Unlike other surgical techniques, image guided surgery provides us with a ‘real time’ view of the body while we operate. We can accurately pinpoint cancer cells and growths and then remove them with far less damage to healthy tissue…It’s far less likely that a cancer patient will need to return for further surgery. It also means less painful side effects from unnecessary damage to healthy tissues and organs.”

Head of Radiation Physics, Princess Margaret Hospital

Internationally recognized for his leadership in the development of image-guided radiation therapy, Dr. Jaffray is a Senior Scientist with PMH’s research arm, the Ontario Cancer Institute, as well as an Associate Professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto. He holds the Orey and Mary Fidani Family Chair in Radiation Physics at PMH. He has pioneered the development of Cone Beam CT and is the recipient of many research awards.  Report on Business Magazine named Dr. Jaffray one of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2003.
